So good news. Turns out I’m not the nerdiest person on the block.

If you’re an Angry Birds fan, you’ll really appreciate this outdoor, light-powered game. It’s essentially Angry Birds but louder and far less accessible.

Loving the plastic-hose controller. It’s been programmed so that the longer you hold down the button, the higher your shot goes. Just like in real life!

I don’t know if you’ve watched any of Freddie Wong’s videos on Youtube. They’ve got amazing visual effects.

In this latest video, Freddie speculates on the future of interactive gaming. He runs around, shoots at Chimera monsters from Resistance (Insomniac actually animated them for this video) and even takes a few hits himself. Freddie doesn’t take himself too seriously in this video and it’s pretty entertaining.

The Highlights:
Freddie takes a massive extension cord outside. It’s ugly, utterly unsophisticated and plugged into the Playstation in his backpack. Interestingly I own the same backpack. The silly camera on his head scans the alleyway and it renders a bunch of baddies for him to shoot. Not surprisingly Freddie takes out the first wave but is shot close to 7 times by a second group. No damage, although as an aside I do wonder how damage would be recorded in an interactive gaming setting like this. Anyway, Freddie activates a grenade from his Playstation Move controller and chucks it, figuratively.

According to Freddie, the technology required to set up a 3D shindig like this is already available. It still needs a lot of work but the video we just saw closely resembles what we might get in the near future.

Oh man oh man. Wow.

Video game designer Tim Schafer walks on “conveyer belt” Sesame Street. Xbox 360 in hand, he’s real excited about going home to play with his kid (WTF). Somehow Cookie Monster gets involved and he ends up eating both cookie and Xbox 360.

Am I High?

The Highlights:
Cookie Monster calls out the 5-second rule and eats his dough. He moves onto more ambitious items and eats the Xbox. That’s the part I don’t really get.

As an aside, it’s pretty scary that Cookie Monster can completely dismantle an Xbox when he’s so obviously baked. Having teeth might have also helped.

All in all a good way to promote Schafer’s Once Upon a Monster title. The game is tapped for an October release.

House of the Dead: Overkill Extended Cut looks so gross that it must be good.

Sega just revealed a new segment to the game dubbed “Creeping Flesh,” which as an aside, is not that creative. For the most part the zombies actually look scary in this game. They’re all naked, skinless and conducive to gagging when seen. I’d take the zombies seriously if I play it. The story goes like this: Candy and Varla are stuck in a slaughterhouse infected by a “meaty disease of sorts.” (said by Sega’s David Bruno on the PlayStation Blog) The boss was also mentioned to be Meat Katie who’s half-Katie and half-cow. A real shame because I think veal is delicious.

So I’m on Youtube right? And then I find this. Classic Mario having fun with wormholes i.e. Portal Gun. The possibilities are endless and the game is now utterly unfair.

Mario is now practically invincible. He fires portals into floors and goads the angry monsters into walking into endless pitfalls. Only thing is, he can’t get the flag! Hahahaha. That’s fate good sir.

But seriously, every game should have portals in it. Grand Theft Auto, Tekken, Guitar Hero… I don’t even know but I’m sure it’ll work out for the best. Anybody have an idea how to get this game?

This pretty much shames any ring you’ve purchased in recent days.

A few days ago scientists discovered a Jupiter-sized planet with a core containing super compressed carbon. Put another way, pure diamond.

This recent find is pretty unique seeing as how diamond planets were never thought to have existed.

This was published in Science Magazine. The people with lab coats paint a little story. Basically, there used to be two stars that orbited one another. One is about the size of our sun and the other one ten times larger. Billions of years ago, the bigger star went supernova and condensed into a pulsar. The smaller star aged in a more conventional way; its outer layers of helium and hydrogen eroded until it became a white dwarf. Even more layers would be taken off because of the pulsar’s immense gravitational pull. Eventually all that would be left is a massive block of carbon. Since Jupiter sized carbon blocks have unspeakable gravities of their own, it would collapse into itself, forming a crystalline substance, or diamond.

So in summary yes. There is an obscenely large diamond out there in the universe. The Koh-i-noor? To hell with that. Unfortunately we’re not gonna get to it soon. It’s 20 trillion miles away. But we can try. And when we do, we’ll build a resort on it.

The Portal: No Escape short film has a pretty exciting vibe to it. It’s grittier, does a reasonable job exploring the Portal concept, and it kinda takes itself too seriously, which is fine by me.

You look:

I’m quite impressed with the film’s production value. I know it’s supposed to be low budget (or is it? I don’t know) but that’s masked quite well. The visual effects are absolute steak-sauce. I like the fiery edges on the wormholes. The Portal drop at the end there was a feat in graphics as well.

A couple of questions though. How did buff girl find out about the Portal gun? Obviously she was tipped off by the Roman numerals on the wall (they never go past day 5 if you pause the video), but that doesn’t tell you anything about the weapon’s location. Freaking GlaDOS. It’s a “Truman Show” ending.

Full movie anybody?

UPDATE:
Director Dan Trachtenberg used Twitter to recruit his production team. Woman with toned arms, the protagonist is actually an actress working for Universal Studios. She plays Sarah Conner in the T2 Live Action Experience. Her name is Danielle Rayne. Good news is Trachtenberg plans on creating more Portal films in the future. Some might even be full-length features.

My first thought? Konami code.

This is one of those outfits that spell “arrest” for a multitude of people. I can’t help but be reminded of the same fetishes that have surrounded Slave Leia and Lara Croft. But unlike Slave Leia or Lara Croft, I think it’s easier to convince your girl to don this at the beach.

Or not.

This looks odd. But it’s sexy in a non-conventional way.

A team from Osaka University teamed up with designer Dr. Kazuo Kawasaki to create this, the “Vaccine Refrigerator,” a backpack to store vials of injections and medicine. Or a #8 on Quizno’s menu.

This baby weighs less than 6 kilos (which is quite heavy already if I might add) and it’s supposed to be able to withstand beatings which to me implies falling rocks and errant bullets. It’s also custom made to store dozens of injection kits (also designed by Dr. Kawasaki) at a constant temperature for up to 3 days.

You can drop this thing via parachute into conflict zones.

Good design. I like it. It’s smart and minimalist.
